Family Reading Outreach

With reading and storytelling at the core of the Humanities, our leadership in family reading is robust. We support family-centered organizations and communities throughout the state with resources and interactive learning programs. The goals are to encourage parents and caregivers to discover and experience the joy of reading with their children, and engage entire communities in supporting and promoting family reading through workshops, book distributions, family-friendly events, and grants.

Museum & Library Enrichment

Helping museums, libraries and historical organizations envision, define and implement new, lively approaches that are focused on visitor engagement is a key goal for MHC. We support organizations as they discover and provide welcoming, engaging, and exciting experiences for visitors. We nurture their growth into lively and creative learning places. The touring museum exhibits we sponsor involve and excite whole communities to collectively learn and celebrate, giving towns throughout Missouri world-class cultural attention.

Teaching the Humanities

The Missouri Humanities Council is a resource for partner organizations offering professional development opportunities for our state’s teachers – providing seminars and institutes that make the humanities come alive. Participants are able to work with subject-matter experts, connect with each other, and concentrate on the practical application of scholarship in the classroom. We also work in partnership with the State Historical Society to involve teachers throughout Missouri in National History Day.

We also support programs in which historians impersonate figures from the past and interact with audiences.
