Application Process and Review Procedures
If you have a program idea that meets our guidelines, please contact Executive Director, Michael Bouman, michael at mohumanities.org to discuss your idea. Our staff will work with you to strengthen the application. If you would like to submit a draft proposal for staff critique, please do so several weeks before the deadline and we will be glad to help you fine-tune the document before you submit a final version. Our board of directors reviews grant applications according to the criteria listed in the grant guidelines. The reviewers look for proposals that present a feasible work plan, a plan for publicity, sound methods of evaluation, and a reasonable budget. Check the notification dates on the grant deadlines schedule to make sure that you have enough time to carry out the programming after the grant begins.
Programs should begin no sooner than four weeks beyond the notification date. The Council will not consider applications that fail to provide this lead time.
Proposals are due in the Council office by 4 p.m. on the day of the appropriate application deadline. Proposals that arrive too late for review will be held over until the next deadline. Send proposals to:
