Grants

The Missouri Humanities Council awards grants in support of locally generated programs. Grants are awarded by MHC board members in open competition, with multiple submission and review dates each year. Download guidelines and application form from our Document Library.

Executive Director Michael Bouman counsels applicants during the development of program ideas, and he critiques drafts of grant applications before submission. Please take advantage of the help available.

Eligibility

Only non-profit organizations may apply for grants, and the activities must be designed principally for adults in Missouri.

Deadlines

For requests above $2,500: May 1, September 1, November 1, February 1. Notification five weeks later.

For smaller requests we have monthly review. Submission is due on the first work day of each month. Notification by the end of that month.

Areas of Interest

The Council is especially interested in projects that help humanities institutions improve their programming and interpretive practices. We are also very interested in institutes and conferences for teachers.

Virtually Missouri LogoWe are very interested in standards for classifying and "tagging" historical resources on web sites. We want to help our affiliated organizations tune in to the standards emerging from the Missouri Digital Heritage Initiative and the "Virtually Missouri" project.
