Eddy Harris is a native Missourian and author of Mississippi Solo, the book chosen by Missouri librarians for ReadMOre 2004. This book was chosen because the committee felt that everyone takes a journey through life, encountering and overcoming obstacles. The book was the ideal vehicle to talk about the archetypal American Story of personal quest; it was skillfully written and echoes some of the finest American writing, including that of Mark Twain, Henry David Thoreau and Emily Dickinson. This book provided many opportunities for discussions and bringing people together to meet and listen to the author.

Although the book had to be reprinted, the committee believed it "touched a responsive chord in a myriad of readers and is evidently destined to reach even more because of the author's honest and revealing consideration of his own potential heroism and his personal relationship to the Mississippi River."
