Cultural Heritage Development
Program Description
Updated September 5, 2007
The "Cultural Heritage Development" component of the Missouri Humanities
Council is designed to help local humanities institutions develop high levels
of public interest and involvement. This program line helps museums and
local institutions involve more people, and more profound levels of learning and satisfaction for all. These goals
are accomplished primarily through the MHC Charette programs, Touring Exhibit
Partnerships and Grants.
Charettes/workshops/seminars
Now in its eleventh year, the charette program is a workshop or seminar organized by MHC Director Michael Bouman with a team of outstanding consultants. A charette is a free service, provided to eight to twelve organizations per year. The aim is to introduce up-to-date ways of thinking about visitor experiences and to provide action plans for improved results.
Touring Exhibit Partnerships
Rural institutions in Missouri have access to Smithsonian touring exhibits through the MHC "Museums on Main Street" program. MHC helps the sponsoring organization add value to the exhibit by generating a range of high-participation activities. The MOMS program is an engine of community involvement! Our connection to the Smithsonian Institution has been a centerpiece of MHC programming since 1996.
"New Harmonies: Celebrating America's Roots Music" will tour Missouri in 2009. Applications for "New Harmonies" are being accepted through November 30, 2007 and should be submitted via email attachment to Patricia Zahn at patricia @ mohumanities.org. The application form can be accessed through the link below.
Grants
MHC offers financial assistance to communities through local non-profit institutions as they improve the way they interpret heritage and shape their communities.
