Missouri Humanities Council Accepting Nominations for 2011 Governor’s Humanities Awards

ST. LOUIS, MO – The Missouri Humanities Council is calling for nominations for the 2011 Governor’s Humanities Awards. Nominations for any individuals or groups whose education, community or literary achievements set an example worthy of statewide attention are open until March 18, 2011

Nominations are being accepted for the following awards categories: Excellence in Education, Exemplary Community Achievement and Distinguished Literary Achievement.

• The Excellence in Education award recognizes one or more teachers of English, history, languages or social studies. Nominated teachers can be from any Missouri public or private school, kindergarten through higher education.

• The Exemplary Community Achievement award recognizes an individual or group who has made a special contribution to a community’s understanding of and support for humanities-related endeavors on the local or state level.

• The Distinguished Literary Achievement award recognizes an individual or group whose book or publication—either printed or online including blogs and social media—has increased our understanding and appreciation of Missouri’s history and culture. Genres can be fiction, non-fiction or poetry.

Nominations must be submitted using the form available at www.mohumanities.org/resources along with additional supporting materials, including a minimum of two letters of support; a resume, Curriculum Vitae, or summary of achievements no longer than three pages; a one to two page summary describing the reason the nominee is deserving of the award and how the nominee fits the category; and any other supporting materials. For the literary award nomination, at least three copies of the book or publication or documentation of the online source must accompany the nomination materials.
