Hannibal, MO Friendraiser

What is a Friendraiser? A Friendraiser is precisely what its name implies-a chance to make new friends. The Missouri Humanities Council Board of Directors hosted a Friendraiser in Hannibal on June 3. The event was held at LulaBelle’s Restaurant in downtown Hannibal, a stone’s throw from the Mississippi River, which was attended by a variety of friends of the humanities.
Our friends included members of the local arts council, area partners in our Read From the Start program, area historical society members and officers. Area elected officials, as well as three members of the Missouri General Assembly, including State Representatives Lindell Shumake (Hannibal), Zach Wyatt (Kirksville) and State Senator Brian Munzlinger (Williamstown) were some who attened.
Following the meal, we adjourned to the Mark Twain Boyhood Home & Museum to hear Curator Henry Sweets discuss censorship issues surrounding “Huckleberry Finn.” We were later given a tour of the museum which has been in operation since 1912.
To say that a Friendraisers is the art of creating communication strategies that help organizations obtain friends and to educate them about our mission is an understatement. MHC can certainly say that the Friendraiser in Hannibal achieved its goal.
