The Missouri Humanities Council will present an array of public programs during the bicentennial of the Lewis & Clark expedition, 2003 - 2006. Planning for these activities was supported by grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Missouri Lewis and Clark Bicentennial Commission.
A mini-series of programs on "Changed Lives: Lewis and Clark Meet the West" will be available at 85 sites throughout Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska and Kansas. Funded through a "We the People" grant from NEH, the series will explore the epic journey from a variety of interdisciplinary points. Native American studies will be a defining component of the programs. Forty communities held programs in 2004. The remaining programs will take place in 2005. If your community would be interested in hosting this 4-part series, please email Patricia Zahn promptly or call 1-800-357-0909.
Again in 2005, several Program Bureau presentations will relate directly to the Lewis and Clark Expedition. The Program Bureau theme for 2005 is "America the Bountiful." The Program Bureau Catalog lists the scholars and their topics, while the Schedule of Events provides a listing of all Program Bureau and other MHC Events in the state.
