This session will explore how a writer makes use of first-person notes, drafts, journal entries, free-writing exercises and other methods to generate a strong, moving and honest first-person work of writing. We will explore literary examples, participate in low-key writing exercises and enjoy good company. Writers can use these techniques in any genre they choose: biography, family memoir, short story, poetry, essay. The workshops are co-presented by the Missouri Humanities Council, the Writers Place, the Moral Injury Association of America, and the Kansas City Public Library. Lunch will be provided. The workshop is free and open to past or present military members and family members of veterans. Attendees must register for each session and are strongly encourged to attend all five.
