Martha L. Greer is the Director for Community Arts at Missouri Western State University.
Raised in Sikeston, Missouri, she earned a Bachelor of Science in Art Degree from Southeast Missouri State University with a minor in English. Her areas of studies included Studio Art, Art History, and Children’s Literature.
During her tenure as Administrator for the Chillicothe Area Arts Council, she initiated numerous new programs, including collaborations with community organizations focused on outreach activities to the elderly and a- risk youth.
In 2006, Greer developed the area’s first Arts & Humanities program, Voices of American Farm Women, Past and Present. This series explored the role of women in the field of agriculture through memoirand thesis reading, family story time and adult book discussion, a musical presentation, and a visual art exhibit. Collaborating partners included the Livingston County Library and the Livingston County Historical Society.
Previously, Greer taught preschool through eighth grade art in Chillicothe.
Greer is a member of Partners in Education, The Chillicothe Area Chamber of Commerce, Missouri Citizens for the Arts, and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Missouri Association of Community Arts Agencies. She lives in St. Joseph with her husband Jared and their three children, Lewis, Liv, and Will. In her spare time she enjoys painting, writing poetry, and reading.
