Deborah Biermann has served as the Executive Vice President of the Sedalia Area Chamber of Commerce since 1984. In these years she has established a Convention & Visitors Bureau, community strategic plan, and a community leadership development program, in addition to achieving and maintaining U.S. Chamber Accreditation since 1987.
Deb is the visionary behind the Sedalia Katy Depot Historic Site. As a charter board member and current officer of the Sedalia Heritage Foundation she developed a plan for the creation of the Railroad Heritage Exhibit as well as a museum operations plan; she secured the position of managing tenant of the Sedalia Katy Depot Historic Site and grants totaling $750,000 to support local match of the Katy Depot Restoration Project The Railroad Heritage Exhibits were opened June 2003, followed by the Women's Waiting Room in August 2004, which features two motion-sensored cast characters: Henry, a telegrapher, greets visitors and tells of his experience as a third generation railroad employee, and Janie reflects on her family's recent trip to the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair.
From 1973 to 1984, Deb worked for the City of Sedalia serving as Executive Secretary. She is a graduate of the United States Chamber of Commerce Institute for Organizational Management, achieved the status of Certified Economic Developer, and was selected as the first Distinguished Alumni for State Fair Community College. She is a member of various museum related organizations and railroad historical societies, and has participated as a consultant in the Missouri Humanities Council Charette program.
