Missouri’s caves, shelters, and rock outcrops still display traces of the beliefs and stories of prehistoric American Indians. Carol Diaz-Granádos has documented over 100 prehistoric carvings (petroglyphs) and paintings (pictographs) left by Missouri’s earliest American Indian populations. She shares her interpretations of these enigmatic designs, which include human figures, animals, geometric and abstract designs, as well as records of celestial phenomena.
